In reaction to the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the Tymoshenko case, Michael Gahler MEP said:

I welcome today's decision of the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg in the Tymoshenko case. The court has sentenced Ukraine due to arbitrary arrest and detention. I call on the Ukrainian authorities to release Mrs. Tymoshenko. She must finally get the medical care she urgently needs.

The Justice of Ukraine has violated the human rights of Ms. Tymoshenko in several cases. This has now been established unmistakably by the court: Arbitrary arrest and unjustified imprisonment as well as preventing a rapid judicial review of detention. The violation of human rights by Ukrainian authorities show the true character of the political persecution of Ms. Tymoshenko.

Yulia Tymoshenko must be released immediately.
